B.S.E. Chemical & Biological Engineering, Princeton University, 2016
Ph.D. Chemical Engineering, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 2021
Postdoctoral Scholar, California Institute of Technology
Zachary Schiffer is an Assistant Professor of Applied Physics at the Harvard John A. Paulson School of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He earned a B.S.E. in Chemical and Biological Engineering from Princeton University and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from MIT, where he was an NSF Graduate Research Fellow in the lab of Prof. Karthish Manthiram. His doctoral research focused on electrochemical methods for ammonia utilization and industrial decarbonization. He then served as a Resnick Sustainability Postdoctoral Scholar at Caltech with Prof. Harry Atwater, leading research on electrochemical carbon capture and utilization. Zachary joined Harvard in January 2024. His current research centers on developing electrochemical systems for industrial decarbonization, including green fuels, nitrogen-cycle chemistry, and electrified chemical manufacturing. In particular, his lab is exploring how temperature, fluid flow (convection), and electrical voltage can work together to enable new types of chemical reactions. He has been recognized as a Scialog Fellow in Sustainable Minerals, Metals, and Materials, and was named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list in Science.
